Korzon-Jimmian War

The Korzon-Jimmian War, as it became known afterward, began on different dates, according to the two principal belligerents. Korzon puts the first day of the war on 13 Athnukel 3590. Jimmian puts the formal date of the war six days later, on 14 Lethnion, 1041. When the Jimmian starship Valiant arrives home and is surveyed by the Molequ Prince Regent and he declares Jimmian formally at war with Korzon.

Summary

Converging on the new world of Delezhavos/Aestatle at roughly the same time, a firefight breaks out between a small fleet of Korzon colony ships and their cruiser escort and the Jimmian starship Valiant. The result is almost complete loss for Korzon and serious damage to the Jimmian starship. The few Korzon survivors are rescued by the Jimmian starship and returned to Korzon some months into the war during a brief cease fire, negotiated by Molequ and the new Korzon government under the leadership of Mûn-Fahdik.

The war continues for twenty years, with long stretches of silence punctuated with violent outbursts. The Korzons tend toward open if sudden battles while the Jimmians tend to pursue quiet, special operations raids on intelligence targets. Jimmian seeks to contain Korzon aggression while Korzon seeks to keep Jimmian held back from much of the most promising areas of the galaxy, at least in Korzon's direction.

The war comes to an end after Korzon introduces a new type of shield and a new type of ship outfitted with it. The shield is a static gravimetric distortion aligned along the temporal plane. It slows all incoming matter and energy, allowing traditional shield generators to focus their absorption range and area to specific impact points. The ship is a massive affair, intended solely as a carrier and repair platform to bring two score of traditional cruisers into a theater and maintain and repair them. With these new battle platforms, Korzon attacks and destroys the starship Valiant and then overruns the two Jimmian colonies, Jonteau and Aestatle. Then Korzon moves against the Jimmian home system to completely neutralize Jimmian's fleet. But Anbrond destroys the bulk of the enemy fleet, allowing the combined Jimmian forces enough of an advantage to destroy the remaining ships.

The failure of the Korzon fleet throws the Korzon government into chaos and gives Jimmian time to develop a technological response to the Gravimetric shield. Partly based on advise from Anbrond and partly based on the research of Professor Nietro of Girv University they design and build a new weapon known as the iSeries i262 Penetrator. After refitting most of their fleet with this new missile weapon, the Jimmian fleet liberates Jonteau and then moves directly against Korzon. But rather than attacking the planet, under the command of The Lord Admiral Commander William Faridon, the fleet blockades the Korzon system to prevent any and all shipping from reaching Korzon. Being heavily dependent on shipments of food from the outside, the Korzon home-world is thus effectively besieged. It is William's plan that without engaging in direct military action, Korzon will nonetheless be forced to surrender.

At the same time, Korzon attempts to send a force against Jimmian, again. And this time they are met with a renewed and more powerful Anbrond, capable of actually freezing the Korzon fleet in time, or nearly so. They are slowed almost to stopping entirely, though they cannot perceive it directly. And so far as the Korzon government knows, the entire fleet simply disappeared. Still, they are soon more concerned with their own state, besieged by William's "Second" Fleet.

But besieged or not, Korzon is not willing to simply give up. And they are prepared and willing to wait out Jimmian's resolve. It is well known that the Jimmian people are uncomfortable inflicting pain and suffering on the Korzon people. Jimmian has always held itself to be the more fortunate and technologically advanced world and the Korzons as unfortunate victims of circumstance. And the pain and suffering is very real, as Korzon is quite willing to relay to sympathetic media on Jimmian. But Jimmians' tender sentiment was stronger before Korzon attacked the Jimmian colonies and the Jimmian home-world directly. Moreover Her Majesty the Queen is not willing neither to assault Korzon directly nor return to cold war posture that held before the Korzon attack. And so the siege drags on for almost two months.

At the same time, Earth, under the clandestine guidance of the Computationally Enhanced Learning Engine, is leading an attempt to broker a peace agreement between Korzon and Jimmian. And at first, their efforts are rebuffed. But when the siege drags on, it becomes more difficult for the two sides to ignore the sentiment of their peoples. When Earth, that is Australia, offers to host delegations from both worlds actin as intermediary and offering unique new information of interest each of the belligerents, a non-binding agreement is made allowing both sides to come to Earth and listen to what the Humans have to offer as a possible starting point for negotiations. The learning engine has uncovered information from both the Jimmian and Korzon computer networks, pouring through countless archives and personal records to piece together the actual origins of the war. Both sides are so certain of their righteousness in the events that precipitated the conflict, neither of them has spent the effort to unravel their own part in it.

After finally putting the complete record before both sides, the learning engine suggests that this can be the reason both sides need to back away from conflict and consider serious and difficult issues to end the war. Using this new information, William makes a bold recommendation to Her Majesty the Queen. He suggests they offer Aestatle/Delezhavos to Korzon in return for a complete surrender and disarmament. After a long and painful consideration, Zequ agrees. But she insists that the lands already occupied by Jimmian colonists remain in Jimmian hands for a number of years. In the end, Jimmian gets a 99-year lease on most of the lands they already hold on Aestatle. Korzon gets complete and immediate control of all other land and seas. In return Korzon gives up all military vessels and military technology for the same period of time and Jimmian will be responsible for Korzon's defense.
